| The Ambassador of the United States to Chad, Louis Nigro, spoke at a ceremony organized by Chad’s Minister of Justice to mark the presentation of 40 typewriters to the Ministry. This donation followed upon one made in 2005 consisting of 80 typewriters. The Ambassador underlined, in remarks made before an audience of Ministry of Justice staff and local media, how great a pleasure it was for him to take part in the ceremony. He said that this contribution was in recognition of the self-sacrifice and the tenacity of Ministry of Justice personnel in carrying out their mission as promoters of the rule of law. This office equipment comes as part of a $210,000 agreement with the U.S. embassy that has already funded the printing of codes and judicial brochures in 2005 and the organization of two seminars at ENAM in 2007, to train magistrates and court clerks. Ambassador Nigro pointed out that American development programs, however modest, stressed tangible and practical assistance projects that served to strengthen the capacity of the beneficiaries. Ambassador Nigro noted that his travels in the interior of Chad have allowed him to observe the difficult working conditions that the justice system was facing. He expressed his wish that this equipment would be sent out to jurisdictions all across the country and would increase the efficiency of the Ministry’s work, a precondition for consolidating the rule of law. |
