The American Language Center
American Language Center
An English instruction school supported by the Public Diplomacy Office, the American Language Center (ALC), is managed by the local NGO Association Culturelle Tchado-USA (ACTUSA). The embassy started an English Teaching Program (ETP) in 1995. For many years it was housed in the old USAID building across the street from the Presidential Palace. In 2010, the ETP was privatized, and its management taken over by ACTUSA. ACTUSA retained all the instructors from the ETP, and moved the school to new and larger premises. The new ALC has a Director, 8 instructors, one secretary or Office Management Specialist and a Janitor/Delivery Assistant. The ALC offers between 18 and 22 classes each semester for an average enrollment of 500 students, 600 students in the summer.
