It's summer time in Chad, and the nation's schools are closed. But nearly 20 English teachers from N’Djamena attended a webinar (a real time seminar available via the internet: web + seminar = webinar)  on Wednesday, August 22, about the use of online and video games as teaching tools in the classroom.  This internet-based program was one of many the American Embassy has hosted for English teaching professionals in Chad, all of which are designed to help improve their classroom skills and learning techniques.  This particular webinar challenged participants from around the world to examine the tried & true methods (i.e., old) they currently use to teach English, and to ask themselves whether there are better and more effective ways to reach today’s tech-savvy students.  Do Generation Y and Z students need new and different approaches (i.e., through the internet, video games etc) to learn English?  The discussion/debate at the end of the program focused on technical and resource challenges Chadian teachers face, and what webinar ideas they might try to introduce into their classrooms.
