Chadian English Teachers Look at Student Writing Skills

September 7, 2012

PAO Andresen Discussing Webinar with Chadian English Teachers

Nearly 20 Chadian English teaching professionals attended a Webinar (an electronic seminar online = webinar) at the American Embassy on Wednesday, September 5, to discuss matters related to student plagiarism – intentional or inadvertent.  They and their webinar colleagues from around the world quickly agreed that the former was unacceptable under any condition in any classroom anywhere; the teachers spent the rest of the 90 minute program examining and discussing ways to prevent inadvertent and unintended plagiarism in student essays and papers.   Helping their students know better how to correctly quote, paraphrase, or summarize the ideas of other people – when best to use one approach over another, their value-added aspects to an essay --  was a subject matter equally important to all teachers – regardless of differences in classroom sizes, resources, and grade level.  All agreed good writing skills were essential to their student’s academic success.
