5. The Embassy’s Public Affairs Officer celebrates with some of the elated graduates of the two-year English learning program.
On Saturday, September 29th, some 110 young Chadians saw two years of hard work come to fruition as Charge d’affaires Todd Holmstrom personally presented certificates of completion signed by Ambassador Mark Boulware. Parents and representatives of the U.S. and Chadian governments packed into the CEFOD’s large auditorium to watch the teenagers perform skits and recite poems in English. The skits reflected Chadian challenges in the areas of corruption, domestic violence and girls education.
The English ACCESS Microscholarship Program began in 2006 and has produced more than 300 English-speaking teenagers. U.S. Embassy N’Djamena will soon open an American Corner in the capital, providing resources for English speakers and students in addition to a programming venue.
