Ambassador Opens Training Program at National Police Academy
September 10, 2012
U.S. Ambassador Mark Boulware spoke at the opening of a two week American-Chadian training program, “Border Control Management,” at the National Police Academy in N’Djamena on Monday morning, September 10. In his remarks to the program’s participants -- mid-level Chadian officers from the national police and gendarmerie, American experts from the Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Office -- the ambassador stressed: “border security is essential for a nation’s progress. Without sound security there can be no economic progress, no movement forward in education, no lasting democratic reform, and no rest. Your participation in this course is an important step in securing Chad’s borders and its future.” Ambassador Boulware also expressed his appreciation for how well the Chadian government has worked with the United States over the past several years to counter cross border threats to regional security, including terrorism, human trafficking, poaching, weapons smuggling, and immigration fraud.
