Warden Messages

June 14, 2008

The US Embassy alerts the American Community to the following information:Mobilization and movement of Chadian military forces and armed rebels has been observed in eastern Chad over the last few days, particularly in the area of Goz Beida. As noted in the Travel Warning for Chad, there continues to be a potential for further clashes between rebel movements and government forces in eastern and southeastern Chad for the foreseeable future. Americans should review their personal emergency action plans and be prepared to implement them if the need arises. Americans are reminded that the U.S. Embassy may not be able to provide the same options and level of evacuation assistance that existed in February, should the situation deteriorate to that degree. American citizens outside the country are advised not to travel to Chad, in accordance with the latest Travel Warning for Chad. American citizens are strongly encouraged

The Department of State has authorized the return of U.S. Embassy non-emergency personnel and adult family members to Chad.  Family members of Embassy personnel under the age of 21 are not authorized to reside in Chad.   

The Department of State continues to urge American citizens in Chad to defer all travel to Chad due to the continuing unstable security situation throughout the country.  American citizens(more)

April 1, 2008

One April 1, 2008, the Prime Minister summoned the diplomatic corps to issue a statement demanding that the Sudanese stop its aggression into Chad.  The government of Chad was particularly concerned about reports of an attack in Ade, 68 kilometers from the Chad/Sudan border.  All Americans in Chad should (more).

The Government of Chad announced this morning that armed rebels have again crossed the border into eastern Chad.(more).

Louis J. Nigro, New US Ambassador to the Republic of Chad

Ambassador Louis Nigro

Louis J. Nigro, Jr. is a member of the Senior Foreign Service of the United States. He entered the Foreign Service in 1980. He arrived in N’Djamena to assume his duties as Ambassador on December 10.

Since entering the Foreign Service in 1980, Ambassador Nigro has served at U.S. diplomatic missions in Chad, Guinea, Haiti, Cuba, the Holy See, and the Bahamas. In Washington, he has held positions in the Department of State's Operations Center, Policy Planning Council, Office of Central African Affairs, Office of Western European Affairs, and Office of Canadian Affairs.(more)
