Fulbright Enhancement 2013

FULBRIGHT FRANCOPHONE/LUSOPHONE

JUNIOR STAFF 

The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Chad is pleased to announce the annual competition for the Fulbright Francophone/Lusophone Junior Staff Development Enhancement Program (FLSJD).

The FLJSD was introduced to enable promising Francophone/Lusophone candidates in a variety of fields, whose English proficiency was slightly below the level required for regular Fulbright awards, to take advantage of the Fulbright program.

Grantees will be funded by the Fulbright Program for a maximum of 8 months of intensive English language training and a maximum of 2 years in a Master’s degree program.  All awards are contingent upon approval by the Fulbright Scholarship Board, availability of funds and successful academic placement.

Priority is given to applicants who are qualified to pursue a Master’s degree in the following fields:

•Agriculture

• Food Security/Safety

• Food Science and Technology

• Water and Soil Management

• Crop Production, Management and Protection

• Economics

• Public Administration

• Information Science

• Political Science

This program is NOT offered for the following applicants:

• Non-degree

• MBA 

• Ph.D.

Applicants in the following fields or sub-fields are also NOT eligible:

• Linguistics

• TEFL

• Literature

Selection Criteria:

Applicants should:

-     have at least the equivalent of 4 years of university study and the        equivalent of a U.S. Bachelor degree;

-          score at least 480 on the paper-based TOEFL;

-          be seeking a Master’s degree in their current field of study;

-          have outstanding academic records, references and preparation in their chosen field;

-          have high motivation and a serious commitment to completing the program in the authorized time and returning home upon completion of the program;

-          be committed to work at an institution in their home country upon completing the designated program;

-          be citizens or nationals of Chad;

-          be computer literate and have a personal e-mail address (applications will be submitted online).

Preference will be given to nominees who have not previously studied in the U.S. and those who are recent graduates.

Qualified applicants can obtain preliminary application forms from the Embassy’s Public Affairs Section starting March 1, 2012. Forms should be filled out and returned along with all required documents no later than April 15, 2012.
