* * *
The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Chad is pleased to announce the annual competition for the Fulbright Francophone/Lusophone Junior Staff Development Program (JSD). This is the largest Fulbright program with Africa, primarily designed to strengthen African universities through higher degree training. Qualified candidates from other educational, cultural and professional institutions may also apply. Recent graduates, especially women, are encouraged to apply. Although candidates for PhD programs may apply, priority will be given to candidates for Master’s programs.
Successful candidates will be funded for a maximum of two years. All awards are contingent upon approval by the Fulbright Scholarship Board, availability of funds, and successful academic placement.
Applicants must:
- be citizens or nationals of Chad, or permanent residents qualified to hold a valid Chadian passport;
- be candidates for an advanced degree in their current field, with at least 4 years of university study or the equivalent of a U.S. Bachelor's degree;
- have a high enough level of English proficiency to enable them realistically to accomplish full-time graduate level study in the U.S.;
- have outstanding academic records, references and preparation in their chosen fields;
- have satisfactory required test scores. Minimum TOEFL score required: 550 (paper-based test) for Master’s, and 600 for PhD candidates;
- have high motivation and a serious commitment to completing the program and to return home;
- have the endorsement of their home institution;
- be candidates for an advanced degree in their current fields (they should hold at least a ‘Maitrise’ degree or equivalent in the French higher education system);
- be computer-literate and have a personal e-mail address (candidates will apply online).
- All applicants will have to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), except nominees for MBA degrees who must take the GMAT and law nominees who only need to take the TOEFL.
Preference will be given to nominees who have not previously studied in the U.S. and those who are recent graduates.
Qualified applicants can obtain preliminary application forms from the Embassy’s Public Affairs Section starting March 1, 2012. Forms should be filled out and returned along with all required documents no later than April 15, 2012. Pre-selected candidates will be contacted by the Embassy for an English language screening test followed by interviews.
