The Race for Congress

On October 18, 2012, a DVC program with ARS Paris titled “The Race for Congress” brought together 15 top-notch contacts, including members of parliament, university professors, political party  and NGO leaders, in the Embassy conference room.  Speaking from Paris, Mr. Steven Ekovich, Law professor at the American University in Paris, briefed the participants about the key issues that mark the campaign for upcoming congressional elections in the U.S.  He pointed out that people outside the U.S. tend to focus mainly on the U.S. presidential elections, often forgetting that when Americans go to the polls on elections day, they also cast votes for candidates for other offices.  A lively discussion moderated by Dr. Susanna Wing, an American professor of Political Sciences at Haverford College, followed professor Ekovich’s presentation.  Dr. Wing was in Chad under the U.S. Department’s Speaker Program to talk about the involvement of women in politics.
